We Asked Our Therapists: What’s Your Self Care Tip?

In what ways are you actively taking care of yourself? It is incredibly important to set aside time for you. Good self-care is the key to finding balance in your life, where you don’t feel mentally, spiritually, and physically exhausted. To help you find this balance, our wonderful therapists have provided us with some valuable self-care tips and insights:

  • Dedicate time and space for the practice of self-care. “Self-care starts with deciding that you are worth it! It’s definitely not a one-time thing. For me, it has to be daily. Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier to make sure you have time to do the things you need to get done, as well as the things you want to get done.” –Dayna
  • Clarify what will best serve you. “Usually, there are some similar core components, but these can look different for different people. For instance, my “essentials” include nature, movement, meditation, and learning.” –Dayna
  • Remember that self-care is not selfish. “The first thing I want people to know is that self-care is not selfish. On the contrary, it is the opposite of selfish. It is truly necessary that, in order to give to others, to care and provide for others, and to contribute to our community, we must be full enough to have something to offer without tapping ourselves dry. The analogy of a car, though a little simplistic, is useful to illustrate this. Unless you’re taking a very short trip, you just won’t get there if you never stop for gas. And before you leave, it might be good to check the air in the tires and even have a tune-up.” –Vivi

Once you follow these tips and make self-care a priority, you will notice so many improvements in your life. Even if you feel like you don’t have time to squeeze something in, make self-care your top priority. You will notice that you feel more energetic and equipped to handle whatever comes your way.
