Welcome to the heartbeat of Integrative Counsel, our blog where tranquility meets transformation. This is your sanctuary for insights and wisdom on nurturing a harmonious connection between mind, body, and spirit.
It’s simple enough to preach the virtues of creativity, but another thing entirely to put them into practice. Circumstance often disconnects us from our creativity, and without instinctual knowledge on how to return to it. Fortunately, there are plenty of motives for getting in touch with your creative side. Here are 6 reasons to get creative:
When we see the people around us engage in creative efforts, it’s easy to see the finished product and assume that we don’t have the time, resources, or will to do the same. But I’m here to tell you that this is simply not true. Being closer to your creativity isn’t about painting a masterpiece, it’s about picking up the paintbrush every day. You may or may not make something that you consider great, but the only way to find out is to practice every day. Art therapy doesn’t necessarily have to be what you would traditionally think. Check out this article we have about how you can express yourself in St Petersburg, FL.
Perhaps the most readily apparent advantage to being a creative person is the ability to create (or find) beauty in the world around us. It is a powerful event when we feel responsible for creating something of great beauty. Just look at how intensely people react when they put together their own business or have their first child. But you don’t have to do anything quite so life-changing in order to make something of beauty. All it takes is the initiative to get in touch with your inner well of creativity.
The greatest barriers to one’s self-understanding are the deeply ingrained stories that we take for granted as fact. Getting in touch with your creativity isn’t just a matter of learning how to draw a picture or put pretty words together. Creativity is also about getting in touch with your individual sense of ingenuity. You might be pleasantly surprised by how much insight can be gained from nurturing your own creative impulse when you make time for your art.
Those insights you gain from being creative aren’t just for your own enjoyment. Your knowledge can have a knock-on effect that could deeply enlighten the people who love and care for you. Once others see you being creative and gaining something from it, they will want to do the same thing. Getting creative then becomes something that you will all do together, and it builds community. It connects everyone on a deeper level and gives them a sense of belonging, which is very important for good mental health.
When you give yourself time to be creative, you allow your mind to roam freely, going down paths it has never been before and seeing things from a different perspective. In our day to day lives, we often get bogged down by the little details. They can make us feel unhappy and overwhelmed. Giving yourself time to be creative relieves this and allows you to expand your mind in a variety of ways.
We are human, and we are bound to make mistakes. Getting creative helps you make peace with imperfection. It’s part of the process, and there’s nothing you can do but go with it and make the best of it or start over with a clean sheet. Regardless of which route you take, it becomes less scary to make mistakes. You expose yourself to imperfection, and then become more fearless in the process. You learn that it’s not as scary as you thought it was.
