Working with the moon will help you hone your intuitive abilities and to get in sync with the natural rhythm of the world. The moon is powerful, and the cycles of the moon impact us each month. The new moon is all about setting your intentions, while the full moon is about letting go. Here are 5 ways you can work with the moon this month:
In the course of our everyday lives, it’s easy to get attached to the way things are, or even the way things used to be. You can get in touch with the cycles of nature by releasing what you’ve been holding on to. You can get stuck focusing on how things “should” be. That mindset only causes you unnecessary suffering.
Close your eyes or have a soft gaze toward the ground. Turn your awareness inward to assess what it is that you really need in that moment and throughout the day. Is it peace? Strength? Patience? Gratitude? Focus on the word (patience) or phrase (I am patient). Notice any emotions or sensations that come up for you. Why is this intention important to you? How will those around you benefit? What will they see?
Unless you live far away from the hustle and bustle of human civilization, it’s almost compulsory to find yourself disconnected from the natural world. The simplest way to work with the moon is to set time aside to gaze at the stars. It’s good to give yourself time to marvel at the wonder of the universe.
Your circadian rhythm is one of the most primal ways in which your body stays in contact with the natural world. But there are countless distractions from getting a consistent or healthy amount of sleep. My teenage self would have balked at the idea, but staying up through all hours of the night staring at glowing rectangles will inevitably have a negative effect on your emotional and spiritual world. By waking up in the light of the morning and sleeping through the darkness of the night, you’re putting your body on the same schedule that humans have kept themselves to for thousands of years.
Human beings are fickle, imaginative, and prone to bouts of spontaneous rejoicing. As you become more aware of your relationship to the natural world, it is vital to have some fun with it. Find meaning in the bird that landed outside your window, or the butterfly that flew past you.
